Rosary
A group meets to recite the rosary every Friday at 5 p.m. in the Church.
Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer is a spiritual practice of our Catholic contemplative tradition that opens us more deeply to a relationship with God in faith and intimacy. "There is a difference between being and doing. Once one's being is transformed in Christ, all one's doing becomes anointed with the interior transformation of one's being... This is the kind of transformation contemplative prayer tends to produce" (from Fr. Thomas Keating, Journey to the Center). All are welcome; no special past experience is necessary. Two groups meet to practice centering prayer (meditation) and discuss their experiences of this prayer. All are welcome to participate in one or both groups. One group meets on the second Tuesday of the month, and the other group meets on the fourth Thursday of the month.
Meeting Christ in Prayer
A group of people who have participated in an eight-week guided prayer experience based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius meets weekly, on Thursdays. The eight-week program is offered occasionally.
Ignatian Prayer
Ignatian prayer, named for St. Ignatius Loyola, encourages a personal, intimate relationship with God that affirms the value of human emotion. Its two characteristic practices are the Spiritual Exercises and the Daily Examen. The Spiritual Exercises ordinarily involve a "retreat in daily life," a one-month program of daily prayer, and regular conversation with a spiritual director. The Daily Examen involves turning to God twice daily in order to become aware of God, express gratitude for the day, tune in to emotions, focus on one aspect of the day about which to pray, and prepare for tomorrow. At St. Catherine's, a group trained in the Spiritual Exercies meets biweekly.
