The O Antiphons are seven Magnificat (Latin for "praise") antiphons sung at Vespers on the last seven days of Advent before Christmas Eve (December 17–23). An antiphon is a short chant whose text is made up of Biblical passages assembled to make a new text. a Magnificat is a hymn of praise modeled on the Magnificat spoken by Mary in Luke 1:46–55. Vespers is the sunset service sung in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, and Anglican/Episcopal churches.
