“The Funeral Rites are an integral part of the Pastoral Care of the Church, who prays for the repose of the soul of the deceased while accompanying the family members and friends of the deceased from the moment of death to the time of burial. When the death of a family member or a loved one causes sorrow, the Church brings hope in eternal life and consolation to the living by proclaiming our faith in Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death. Death is the entrance into eternity. A funeral is not a celebration of the life of the deceased but the hope of new life with God.”
Scheduling a Funeral
Funerals may be celebrated any day of the week, except for Holy Days of Obligation; Holy Thursday; The Triduum; and Sundays during Advent, Lent, and Easter. Pleae contact the Parish Office at 257-2493 to schedule a funeral or with any questions. You will be able to plan the funeral Mass with our pastor or pastoral associate.
Music
Our organist and funeral choir are available for funerals, and we can help you select appropriate music. Unfortunately, pre-recorded or secular music is not appropriate for the funeral liturgy.
Words of Remembrance
A family member or friend may speak in remembrance of the deceased. This is not a eulogy, which recounts some significant events in the life of the deceased; words of remembrance, in contrast to a eulogy, briefly provide some insight into the Catholic faith and values of the deceased seen through the lens of one or two examples from his or her life.
Please see our guidelines for preparing words of remembrance to help with this task.
Cremation
Cremation is permitted but not encouraged because of how the Church views the dignity of the human body.
Please don't hesitate to contact the Parish Office with any questions about funeral liturgies.
